Makhadzi claims she feels kidnapped amid Botswana promoter dispute
South African singer Makhadzi has spoken out about a bitter dispute with a Botswana promoter, claiming she feels harassed, trapped and taken advantage of.
The award-winning Ghanama hitmaker made the allegations during a live social media broadcast, where she claimed the promoter had taken possession of her passport, car and personal belongings following a financial disagreement.
The dispute reportedly relates to a previous performance as well as promotional work for her upcoming One Woman Show.
Makhadzi says she feels trapped
During the broadcast, Makhadzi appeared distressed as she addressed the situation and made it clear that she was unhappy with how the matter had unfolded.
“I am not coming with peace. Maybe before I can talk, I want anyone who is my friend here to understand what I am going through,” she said.
The singer explained that the circumstances had left her feeling as though she could not leave or resolve the situation freely.
“Even though it might not look like that in the background, the situation itself makes me feel like I am kidnapped. I feel like I am being taken advantage of,” she said.
She also described the experience as harassment, saying she had reached her breaking point.
“I feel like I am kidnapped, I am harassed, and it is just too much,” she said.
Dispute comes ahead of One Woman Show
The disagreement comes as Makhadzi prepares for her One Woman Show, scheduled for 24 December at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
The Botswana promoter has reportedly worked with the singer since at least 2023, with his company appointed to manage her bookings and business dealings in the neighbouring country.
The dispute has raised questions about the working relationship between the singer and the promoter, although the full details of the disagreement have not been established.
Makhadzi’s statements reflect her account of the situation. The promoter’s response was not included in the information available at the time of publication.
