A robbery involving an e-hailing driver in Hillbrow has led to the arrest of a 23-year-old woman, after dashcam footage of the incident began circulating on social media.

The incident happened on Friday, 30 October, when the driver was reportedly robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash in the Johannesburg neighbourhood.

Following the incident, the victim approached police and formally opened a robbery case, setting an investigation in motion.

Hillbrow police confirmed that the woman was arrested on Saturday, 31 October, as officers continue working to track down the other people believed to have been involved.

Police hunt for two more suspects

The arrest follows the establishment of a dedicated task team by Hillbrow Acting Station Commander Colonel Marite.

The team was assigned to investigate robberies within the policing precinct and ensure those responsible are brought before the courts.

However, the investigation is far from over, with police still searching for two additional suspects allegedly linked to the robbery.

Suspect expected in court

The 23-year-old woman is expected to appear before the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 2 November 2026.

The incident has once again drawn attention to the safety concerns facing e-hailing drivers, particularly those working in busy Johannesburg neighbourhoods.

With two suspects still outstanding, police investigations are continuing.
