Sandton Drive closure brings traffic delays ahead of Red Bull event

Motorists travelling through Sandton should prepare for traffic delays as sections of Sandton Drive close ahead of the Red Bull Box Cart Race on Sunday, 4 October, Joburg Etc reports.

The southbound section of Sandton Drive between Alice Lane and Grayston Drive closed from 19:00 on Thursday, 1 October, as event preparations got underway. The route will remain affected until Tuesday, 6 October, with motorists directed to use alternative routes.

Further Sandton road closures

Sandton Drive will be fully closed in the affected section, while additional restrictions will apply around Grayston Drive and Alice Lane. The official event information says the closures are linked to construction and breakdown for the Red Bull event.

JMPD has urged motorists to plan ahead and expect delays, particularly around the Sandton CBD. Alternative routes include Winnie Mandela Drive, Katherine Street, Fredman Drive, Fifth Street and Bryanston Drive.

On Sunday, 4 October, further closures will be implemented as the event takes place on Sandton Drive. The Red Bull Box Cart Race starts at 11:00 and is expected to draw spectators to the area.

Motorists are advised to follow temporary traffic signs, barricades and instructions from traffic officers while travelling through the precinct.
