The M23 rebel group has declared a ceasefire, bringing temporary relief to the conflict-ridden Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The Tutsi-led armed group has been engaged in violent clashes, resulting in the deaths of over 700 people, including 14 South African National Defence Force (SANDF) soldiers.

This announcement comes just days before a crucial meeting between the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and East African leaders to address the ongoing instability in the region.
