Powerball Jackpot Soars to R100 Million: Here’s What You Need to Know

Published

on

South Africa’s Powerball jackpot has reached an eye-watering R100 million for Friday night’s draw, marking 16 consecutive rollovers since the last big win. This massive prize is accompanied by a Powerball Plus jackpot worth an estimated R3 million, offering another opportunity for players to strike it rich.

This follows the recent Powerball Plus jackpot win of R33,515,456.40 in the January 21, 2025 draw. The lucky winner bought their ticket via a bank app and is yet to claim the prize. Ithuba, the National Lottery operator, confirmed that the winner would receive a call from their bank, advising them to visit the nearest Ithuba office to claim their fortune.

As the excitement builds for Friday’s draw, it’s worth noting that many prizes remain unclaimed. By the end of October 2024, Ithuba revealed that a staggering R257 million in winnings from various games was left unclaimed. If not claimed within 365 days, these winnings are forfeited and redirected to the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund (NLDTF) to support community initiatives.

Important Rules for Lottery Players

  • Age Restriction: Players must be 18 years or older.
  • Tax-Free Winnings: All prizes are tax-free in South Africa.
  • Claim Period: Tickets are valid for up to 365 days from the draw date.
  • Quick Payouts: Valid claims are paid out within 72 hours.

For Friday’s draw, players have the chance to win life-changing sums of money. Ithuba continues to remind players to keep their tickets safe and to double-check their numbers after the draw.

Will Friday’s Powerball jackpot crown South Africa’s newest millionaire, or will the prize roll over again? Only time will tell.
