Five suspects have been arrested in connection with the brutal farm attack on Donovan Marx near Ventersdorp in the North West, Joburg Etc reports.

The arrests follow an intensive police investigation into the attack on the 50-year-old farmer at his Syferfontein property on Wednesday, 28 October. Two suspects were arrested in the Ventersdorp area on Saturday, 31 October, while three more were apprehended in Promosa, near Potchefstroom, on Sunday, 1 November.

According to Ian Cameron, the latest operation was conducted by Ventersdorp detectives with assistance from the Provincial Anti-Gang Unit. Four firearms were seized, two of which have been linked to the attack. Clothing and jewellery were also recovered.

The suspects, aged between 26 and 56, are expected to appear in the Ventersdorp and Potchefstroom Magistrates’ Courts on Tuesday, 3 November. They face charges including house robbery, attempted murder and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

Ian Cameron, chairperson of Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Police, praised the investigating officers and community members who assisted with the operation.

‘Five arrests in a matter of days are significant progress,’ Cameron said in a post on X, adding that the next priority was ensuring a strong case that could withstand scrutiny in court.
