Healthcare Hero Wins R110m PowerBall Jackpot

After years of grueling shifts and emotional exhaustion, a dedicated healthcare worker has struck it lucky — winning a massive R110 million in the PowerBall jackpot. While she plans to rest and treat her family, she says she’s not walking away from the job that’s been her calling.
The woman, a regular lottery participant, says the windfall is life-changing. “Many of us are burnt out, but we work extra hours just to make ends meet. Now, I can finally take time off to rest,” she said.
Her first plans? Securing a stable future for her children and enjoying simple pleasures she previously couldn’t afford. “A home and a car are priorities, but I also want to give my kids their first real holiday. Nothing fancy — we’ll start with a trip to Durban,” she added.
The winning ticket was bought using the FNB app with a R30 quick pick wager during last Tuesday’s draw. She described the surreal moment she discovered she’d won: “I saw a message from FNB but didn’t comprehend it. Then I kept getting calls from an 087 number, which I ignored until I finally answered. It was the bank telling me I’d won the PowerBall jackpot!”
She said it took days for the news to truly sink in, but she’s now ready to begin a new chapter. “It feels like a birthday gift,” she said. “I’ve never had a real celebration, just small lunches. But this year, it’s different — I’m celebrating something so much bigger.”
The woman confirmed that part of her winnings would go toward her children’s education. She also plans to rely on Ithuba’s financial advisors to make sound decisions. “I want to preserve this wealth and make smart choices,” she said.
Despite the financial freedom, she has no plans to retire. “Healthcare work isn’t just a job you resign from — it’s a calling. I’ll continue working, but now it’s from a place of passion, not necessity.”
Ithuba CEO Charmaine Mabuza congratulated the winner, calling her story inspiring. “We’re thrilled that our biggest PowerBall winner of the year is someone who has given so much to her community. We wish her joy and success as she begins this exciting new journey.”
