Somewhere in South Africa, two people may be waking up to life-changing news or perhaps they still have no idea they are suddenly millionaires.
More than R30 million was won in this weekend’s Ithuba Lotto and Lotto Plus draws, with two jackpot tickets matching all six numbers in separate games. If you bought a ticket and haven’t checked it yet, now would be a very good time.
The biggest prize of the weekend came from the Lotto Plus 2 draw, where one lucky player won a staggering R22 308 590.
Another ticket holder claimed the Lotto Plus 1 jackpot worth R9 945 027.
Both winners matched all six numbers, instantly turning an ordinary weekend into one they will never forget. As of now, Ithuba has not released further details about where the winning tickets were bought or whether the winners have come forward.
If your ticket is sitting in a wallet, kitchen drawer or car cubbyhole, here are the numbers to check:
Lotto: 23, 25, 31, 48, 52, 53
Bonus Ball: 08
Lotto Plus 1: 01, 04, 08, 40, 41, 57
Bonus Ball: 19
Lotto Plus 2: 21, 38, 43, 56, 57, 58
Bonus Ball: 53
Players are encouraged to confirm results through official National Lottery platforms.
Every time big money lands, social media lights up with the same jokes and hopes:
It has become part of South African lottery culture. From taxi ranks to office tea rooms, jackpot weekends often spark daydreams about houses, school fees, family support and finally paying off debt.
For many households facing rising living costs, stories like these feel less like fantasy and more like a brief shot of possibility.
According to Ithuba, smaller winnings under R250 000 may be paid directly into a player’s account when tickets were purchased via approved banking platforms.
For prizes above that amount, winners are referred for a formal payout process.
There is also free financial and trauma counselling available for winners of more than R50 000 a reminder that sudden wealth can be overwhelming as much as exciting.
And yes, lottery winnings in South Africa are tax-free.
Every year, some prizes go unclaimed simply because people forget to check old slips or lose track of digital entries. This weekend’s jackpots are a reminder that fortunes sometimes arrive quietly.
So before you toss that ticket aside or ignore the banking app notification, have another look. Your millions might still be waiting.
