Ernst Roets, director of the Afrikaner Foundation, has accused South African universities of teaching students that white people are “sub-human.” In an interview with Tucker Carlson, Roets discussed a viral video in which Nhlamulo ‘Nota’ Baloyi allegedly declared that white people are inferior human beings, claiming this narrative is being promoted in academic institutions.

“There’s a theory, a video that went viral, where this guy talks about how white people are subhuman. This is taught at universities in South Africa. There is a theory called Azania Critical Theory,” Roets said, adding that the theory is rooted in Pan-Africanism, with an African twist on American-origin ideas.

Roets explained that Azania Critical Theory justifies the targeting and extermination of white Afrikaners in South Africa. According to him, the theory is linked to the African concept of “Ubuntu,” which Roets defined as brotherliness or humanity. He stated that the theory holds white people incapable of embodying Ubuntu, thus rendering them less human, and claimed that this belief has been taught by university professors in South Africa.

Human rights activist Dr. Tristan Kapp refuted Roets’ claims, explaining that Azania Critical Theory is an intellectual framework that examines race and racism in South Africa, particularly through the lens of Azanian political thought. Dr. Kapp clarified that the theory critiques the injustices of colonialism and apartheid, advocating for decolonisation and the affirmation of black consciousness, without asserting that white people are inferior to black people.
