Cat Matlala abandons bail application in Pretoria fraud case

Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala has abandoned his bail application in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court, where he faces charges linked to the alleged use of falsified documents to secure a residential lease in Waterkloof Heights.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) regional spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana confirmed that the case has been postponed to 29 October for further investigations.

Matlala, 50, remains at the centre of a case involving allegations of fraud, forgery and the unlawful possession of an identity document.

Matlala faces multiple charges

Matlala faces two counts of fraud, two counts of uttering, one count of forgery and a charge of contravening the Identification Act.

The charges relate to allegations that he and three co-accused used falsified documents in January 2025 to secure a lease agreement for a property in Waterkloof Heights through a real estate agent.

His co-accused are Tsakani Matlala, 38, Claudette Masethe, 31, and Given Makofane, 46. According to Mahanjana, all three have previously been released on bail.

Alleged identity document linked to Eswatini Royal House

Matlala is also accused of unlawfully possessing an identity document issued in the name of Vusumuzi Dlamini between 13 and 21 January 2025.

The document allegedly purported to associate him with the Eswatini Royal House and was reportedly used to obtain the residential lease.

The allegations have not been established as facts in court.

Case postponed for further investigation

The matter will return to the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on 29 October as investigations continue.

Matlala’s decision to abandon his bail application means the current proceedings will continue while the state investigates the allegations against him.
