Limpopo cashier arrested after alleged R500,000 duplicate-receipt scheme

A 26-year-old cashier was arrested in Mokopane on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, after an investigation into alleged duplicate receipts at a local milling company uncovered roughly R500,000 in unaccounted stock.

How the case emerged

The matter came to light on August 11, 2025, when the owner of the milling company received a call from a customer who noticed discrepancies on a receipt. The customer questioned why the date and time on the receipt did not match the purchases, prompting the owner to investigate.

Investigation and evidence

Provincial police said CCTV footage was reviewed and allegedly linked one of the company’s female cashiers to the duplicated receipts. The owner then gathered duplicated invoices as evidence and reported the matter to the Provincial Commercial Crimes Unit, which opened a fraud case and launched an extensive investigation.

“Upon checking, the owner discovered that a cashier had allegedly been issuing duplicate receipts to customers,”

An internal audit reportedly followed and found significant losses.

“An internal audit was subsequently conducted and revealed that stock to the value of R500 000 could not be accounted for,”

the police said.

Arrest and court appearance

Members of the Provincial Commercial Crimes Unit arrested Sune Grobbelaar, 26, in the Mokopane policing precinct on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. Police said the suspect appeared before the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court the same day and was remanded in custody. Her case was postponed to July 27, 2026 for further police investigations and a formal bail application.
