Madlanga Commission rejects Serge Cabonge allegations

The Madlanga Commission has rejected allegations attributed to Serge Cabonge in a voice recording played during Shadrack Sibiya’s bail proceedings on 13 October 2026.

In a statement, Commission spokesperson Jeremy Michaels described the allegations as “false, incoherent and unsupported by facts”.

Michaels said none of the commissioners or evidence leaders had met or spoken to Cabonge, or had any knowledge of him. He added that nobody acting on behalf of the Commission had communicated with Cabonge, either directly or through an intermediary, about his appearance before the inquiry.

The Commission said it had initially undertaken to engage with Cabonge and investigate the matter in line with its terms of reference.

However, it issued a further statement amid growing public commentary suggesting possible interference by senior Commission representatives in a criminal investigation.

The Commission urged the public to treat the allegations with caution.
