Hawks arrest company director over R880,000 Department of Transport tender; rented park homes repossessed
KuGompo Hawks arrested a company director over alleged fraud in a R880,000 Dept of Transport tender after eight rented park homes were repossessed.
A company director has been arrested by the KuGompo Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation (SCI)
Arrest and court appearance
The Hawks said the suspect was arrested on 6 October 2026 and is expected to appear before the KuGompo Magistrate’s Court on 7 October 2026.
The tender and the contract
The matter relates to a 2023 Department of Transport tender for the supply, delivery and assembly of prefabricated modular units for the Middledrift Roads Maintenance Camp, which is reportedly within the Raymond Mhlaba Local Municipality area.
The Hawks said the contract was valued at R880 000 and required the successful service provider to supply and deliver the specified modular units in accordance with contractual terms and conditions.
Allegations about the supply of park homes
According to Hawks spokesperson Warrant Officer Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana, the tender was reportedly awarded to a company of which the suspect is the sole director.
“It is alleged that the company delivered eight park homes to the designated departmental site at Middledrift,”
Mhlakuvana said that while the delivery appeared to indicate compliance with the tender requirements, subsequent enquiries focused on the provenance, ownership and contractual basis upon which the units had been supplied.
Rental arrangement and repossession
The Hawks’ account states that the investigation allegedly found the park homes had been obtained from a rental company under a rental arrangement and then delivered to the Department of Transport as the contracted supply.
They say the rental arrangement was allegedly not maintained and that the rental company reclaimed the park homes after rental payments had reportedly remained outstanding for about two to three months.
Charges and investigation
After considering the available evidence, the Hawks arrested the company and its sole director and charged them with fraud. The KuGompo Hawks’ SCI carried out the protracted investigation that led to the arrests.
This report is based solely on information provided by the KuGompo Hawks and the Department of Transport tender record cited in the Hawks’ statement.
