What happened
Members from security company Reaction Unit SA (Rusa) attended the scene on Valley View Drive after reports of an assault. Rusa interviewed the injured man at the scene.
Victim’s account
The man told Rusa that he had been drinking in Phoenix before returning to Redcliffe. He stopped at a local tuck shop where he regularly buys items and was seated outside drinking a beer when four individuals approached him.
After a verbal altercation, the group allegedly assaulted him. The victim said that when he fell to the ground, two of the suspects stabbed him multiple times. During the attack his cellphone fell from his pocket and was allegedly stolen by one of the assailants before the group fled the scene.

Other incidents reported by Rusa
Rusa also reported two other, separate incidents in KwaZulu-Natal.
- In Hazelmere, a man was allegedly robbed and shot while walking through the eNyokeni area. Rusa said members arrived after the injured pedestrian was spotted alongside a gravel road. Two armed perpetrators confronted the man, stole his cellphone and an undisclosed amount of cash, and allegedly shot him once in the right leg before fleeing. A taxi driver noticed the injured man and alerted members of the public.
- In Verulam CBD, Rusa said officers came upon an alleged shoplifting suspect being restrained by supermarket employees. The suspect had allegedly stolen two 400ml bottles of Nivea lotion, and during the struggle grabbed and smashed a beer bottle and attempted to use the broken bottle to stab his way free. A store employee sustained an injury to the right finger while attempting to disarm the suspect, who also allegedly injured his wrist. The suspect was restrained and handed over to the Verulam SAPS.
Response and next steps
Rusa attended the Redcliffe scene following public reports and conducted an interview with the injured man. The group of suspects in the Redcliffe attack fled the scene with the victim’s cellphone, according to Rusa.
