Three killed and 14 injured after minibus and car collide on N2 between Heidelberg and Riversdale

Three people were killed and 14 injured when a minibus and a car collided on the N2 between Heidelberg and Riversdale on Tuesday morning, provincial traffic authorities said.

What happened

Provincial traffic chief Maxine Bezuidenhout said the collision occurred at about 10am and involved a minibus and a light motor vehicle. “We confirm a collision occurred involving a minibus and a light motor vehicle,” she said.

Casualties and response

Bezuidenhout confirmed the fatalities and injuries: “Tragically, three people have lost their lives, and a further 14 people have sustained injuries.” She said emergency services were on site providing medical assistance and managing the incident. “Emergency services remain on scene, providing medical assistance and managing the incident,” she said.

Traffic impact and warnings

The N2 was closed to traffic while emergency crews worked at the scene. Bezuidenhout advised motorists to use a detour and warned of delays: “Motorists travelling in the area are advised to use the detour via the Slangrivier turn-off towards Heidelberg and to expect delays,” she said.

She also appealed to road users to cooperate with officials:

“We urge road users to exercise patience and follow the instructions of traffic officials on scene,” Bezuidenhout said.

Location

The collision took place on the stretch of the N2 that runs between Heidelberg and Riversdale along the Garden Route in the Western Cape.
