Two arrested in Ivory Park after probe links vehicle to kidnappings and robberies
Gauteng police have arrested two people in connection with a series of kidnappings, robberies and alleged sexual assaults in Ivory Park and nearby areas. The arrests followed an intensive intelligence-led investigation that identified a vehicle believed to have been used in the crimes.
Investigation and vehicle link
Police said Crime Intelligence worked with the Ivory Park Detectives, the Ivory Park Task Team and the Provincial Anti-Kidnapping Team to investigate the kidnapping of a 24-year-old woman on July 9. The woman was allegedly abducted outside her home in Ivory Park.
“It is alleged that the suspects forced the victim into a vehicle, drove around with her, and used her cellphone to contact her family while demanding a ransom for her release,”
Authorities identified the vehicle the suspects allegedly used and seized it during the inquiry. Police said further investigations linked the same vehicle to several similar incidents reported in the Ivory Park and Tembisa policing precincts.
Arrests and charges
On Monday, July 13, operational members intercepted a grey Toyota Rumion in Ivory Park Extension 2 and arrested two suspects. The vehicle, which police say was positively linked to the commission of the offences, was seized as part of the ongoing investigation.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects allegedly kidnapped victims, robbed them and, in some instances, sexually assaulted female victims while driving around with them. Investigations are continuing, and further arrests cannot be ruled out,”
The arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court soon.
Next steps
Police said investigations remain under way. No additional details about the identities of the arrested suspects or further court dates were provided.
