Johannesburg’s Judd Bertholdt has clinched the 2024 Volkswagen Rookie Cup title after a stellar performance at the Zwartkops Extreme Festival season finale. His victory highlights his talent, hard work, and dedication. Volkswagen Motorsport is excited to welcome young drivers for the 2025 season, encouraging those with dreams of racing to join the championship.
Bertholdt’s journey to the title was thrilling. Durban’s Uzair Khan started the weekend with pole position, just edging out Bertholdt. However, Bertholdt made a strong start and quickly took the lead, creating distance between himself and his competitors. He held this position until the finish, securing a dominant victory in the first race. Khan finished in second, followed by Dhivyen Naidoo and Josh Moore.
In the second race, Bertholdt faced a tougher challenge. Starting third behind Naidoo and Khan, he held his ground after some early struggles. He finished fourth, securing the points he needed to claim the Rookie Cup title. This consistency throughout the season proved his skill and determination.

Volkswagen’s head of motorsport, Mike Rowe, celebrated Bertholdt’s achievement. “Congratulations to Judd on winning the Volkswagen Rookie Cup,” Rowe said. “We’re thrilled to welcome him to the Volkswagen Motorsport Rookie Polo Cup in 2025. The training and experience he gained have prepared him to compete at the next level.”
Volkswagen’s support of young drivers is evident in their comprehensive racing program. This initiative helps drivers like Bertholdt grow and succeed in motorsport.
