Connie Ferguson eviction case contested by Ruimsig couple
The Connie Ferguson eviction case is contested after the Ruimsig couple she wants evicted opposed her application in the Johannesburg High Court, Joburg Etc reports.
According to Sunday Times reporting, Ferguson seeks an eviction order against Vikar and Trisarnia Maharaj over alleged R549 302 arrears in occupational rent, municipal utilities and related charges.
The parties signed a sale agreement on 28 October 2025. The Maharajs moved in on 1 December, agreeing to pay R65 000 monthly in occupational rent while awaiting transfer, excluding other charges.
Ferguson alleges they fell behind and blamed their difficulties on accountant fraud. They reportedly paid R165 000 in May and June, but the balance remained outstanding by August.
Her company says their continued occupation prevents it from using or selling the property. Ferguson says in her affidavit that the couple can secure alternative housing ‘without rendering them homeless or dependent on state resources’. The Maharajs filed a notice to oppose on 7 October; their defence grounds have not been disclosed.
In online reactions, users debated landlords’ property rights and tenant protections, with some supporting Ferguson and others raising tenants’ rights. Comments showed how divisive eviction disputes remain. The court has yet to decide the application.
