Limpopo police launch manhunt after rape and house robberies in Hoveni

Police in Limpopo have launched a large-scale manhunt for two armed suspects behind a wave of violent attacks in Hoveni village near Maake. The suspects are accused of terrorising seven households in a coordinated robbery spree between Friday night, 9 May, and the early hours of Saturday, 10 May 2025.
According to police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the armed men broke into multiple homes between 23:30 and 02:00, stealing money and cellphones while committing a string of serious crimes—including the rape of two girls aged 14 and 15.

One male victim was shot several times and remains in hospital. Police also confirmed charges of attempted murder, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and the illegal discharge of firearms during the attacks.
Limpopo Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, described the spree as “heinous” and deeply damaging to community safety. “This was an attack not just on individual families, but on the safety and dignity of our entire community,” she said.
She confirmed that experienced detectives and specialised units have been deployed to track down the suspects, with forensic teams already recovering key evidence, including empty cartridges.
“These dangerous criminals will be found and they will face the full might of the law,” Hadebe stated, condemning the attackers’ brutal disregard for human life, especially their targeting of vulnerable women and children.
