Benoni Flying Squad arrests four in drug and gun sweep
Benoni Flying Squad officers arrested four suspects and recovered drugs, a firearm and ammunition in operations across Benoni and Tembisa from Monday 27 July to Thursday 29 July 2026, SAPS said.
The arrests began on Monday afternoon when officers detained two suspects, aged 21 and 25, at Barcelona Extension 34 and Emaphupheni Extension 10 for drug related offences. Police recovered crystal methamphetamine and nyaope during the separate incidents.
On Thursday at about 02:40, officers received information from a Tembisa SAPS detective about a firearm at a residence in Ndaba Street, Emangweni Section, Tembisa. Officers arrived at the house and found two male suspects, aged 41 and 21, in a back room.

Police immediately arrested both men after recovering an unlicensed Taurus revolver and 46 live rounds of ammunition. Officers also booked an empty cartridge found in the room for forensic analysis.
The suspects are expected to appear in the local magistrate’s courts on charges of possession of drugs and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
SAPS said the operation forms part of efforts to keep guns and drugs off the streets. Police continue with investigations.
