Former Springbok wing Cornal Hendricks has died at the age of 37 after reportedly suffering a massive heart attack on Wednesday.

His sudden passing has sent shockwaves through the South African rugby community, where he was widely admired for both his talent and his determination to overcome serious health challenges.

Hendricks made his Test debut in 2014 and earned 12 caps for the Springboks, scoring five tries during his international career. He also played locally for Boland, the Cheetahs, and the Bulls.

In 2016, Hendricks signed with Western Province and the Stormers, but a diagnosis of a serious heart condition forced him out of the game before he could represent either side. A potential move to French Top 14 team Toulon was also cancelled due to the health scare.

Forced into early retirement at 27, Hendricks spent years away from the game before making an inspiring return in 2019. After receiving medical clearance, he joined the Bulls and became a key figure over the next five seasons, making 115 appearances and scoring 34 tries across all competitions.

Tributes have been pouring in from fans, teammates, and rugby officials, honouring a career marked by resilience and passion.
