Altron Nexus Breaks Away in Major Buyout to Form New Tech Firm, Sentiv

A major shift is underway in South Africa’s tech space as Altron Nexus, a long-standing player in communication infrastructure, prepares to split from its parent company through a management-led buyout. The transaction, signed and awaiting final approvals, is set to reshape the business as an independent entity called Sentiv — a name inspired by the words “sentient” and “intuitive.”
The buyout is being led by Louis Du Toit, current Managing Director of Altron Nexus, who will become CEO of Sentiv, alongside Reshaad Sha, who will step into the role of Executive Chairman. The deal is expected to close by the end of June 2025, pending regulatory and contractual clearances.
A Fresh Chapter for a Legacy Business
Altron Nexus has a rich 55-year history in South Africa, known for designing and managing secure communication networks for essential services — from police departments and emergency response units to industrial operations. Established in 1965, the company has operated under the Altron Group umbrella for over four decades and partnered with more than 130 provincial businesses.
Despite its legacy and expertise, Nexus hit several roadblocks in recent years, particularly around complex and delayed government contract disputes, such as a drawn-out tender process involving the City of Tshwane. These challenges led Altron to restructure the Nexus business last year, eventually deciding it no longer aligned with the group’s strategic focus.
Strategic Exit for Altron, New Beginning for Nexus
Under the terms of the transaction, the new owners will assume all intercompany debt. However, any potential financial recoveries from the City of Tshwane legal proceedings will remain with Altron. The group has clarified that the buyout will not generate any direct cash proceeds for the parent company.
This deal marks a strategic exit for Altron, but a bold new beginning for Nexus under the Sentiv banner — giving the management team full control to redefine the business in a competitive and evolving market.
While challenges remain, the leadership team behind Sentiv is betting on agility, deep sector experience, and a clearer focus to reignite growth. As the South African tech landscape continues to evolve, all eyes will be on Sentiv’s next steps as it repositions itself as an independent powerhouse in communications infrastructure and digital innovation.
