As the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court reconvenes for the fourth day of Tiffany Meek’s bail application, her defence team is set to begin cross-examining the investigating officer. This follows the State’s closing arguments on Tuesday, in which it strongly opposed granting bail to the 31-year-old mother accused of killing her son, Jayden-Lee Meek.

Meek, from Fleurhof in Gauteng, faces multiple charges: the murder of her 11-year-old son, crimen injuria, attempting to defeat the ends of justice, and obstructing the administration of justice.

On Tuesday, the court heard chilling details from the investigating officer, who urged the magistrate not to release Meek. He cited fears that she may flee before her trial and warned that public sentiment could place her at risk if she is seen in the community.

“If the public sees her outside… we see communities taking the law into their own hands,” the officer testified. “Her release will disturb public peace.”

Meek had offered her father’s address in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) as an alternative residence if granted bail. However, the officer objected, stating that it would unfairly burden KZN police with the responsibility of monitoring her—a duty that should remain with Gauteng authorities.

In a shocking revelation, the post-mortem report for Jayden-Lee showed no signs of defensive injuries, indicating that the child may not have fought back. The listed injuries included:

  • Deep skull hemorrhaging

  • Cerebral swelling

  • Abrasion above the right eyebrow and near the lower lip

  • Green and blue bruising near the elbow

The official cause of death was ruled as blunt force head trauma.

As the bail hearing resumes today, Meek’s legal team is expected to challenge the testimony of the investigating officer. However, with mounting public anger and the severity of the charges, the court faces growing pressure to prioritize community safety.
