Trial of Tiffany Meek resumes in Johannesburg after court inspection of Fleurhof flat

The trial of Tiffany Meek, who faces several charges including the murder of her son Jayden‑Lee Meek, resumed in the Johannesburg High Court on Monday after the court conducted an in‑loco inspection at the apartment complex where they lived.

In‑loco inspection at Fleurhof complex

The judge, together with legal counsel, carried out the inspection at Swazi Place in Fleurhof, the apartment complex where Meek and her son lived on 26 August. The court did not permit filming of the inspection, but police photographers and other personnel were on site to assist in documenting the scene for the trial record.

Photographs to be compiled as evidence

Photographs taken during the inspection are to be printed and compiled into an album that will be placed on the record for the trial, allowing counsel, Meek and witnesses to refer directly to the images during proceedings. The matter was postponed, the court said, because the police officer responsible for compiling the album was unavailable. The album is expected to be handed to the court and entered as evidence.

Charges and case background

Meek has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, child abuse, defeating the ends of justice and crimen injuria in connection with her son’s death.

According to court material, Jayden‑Lee was reported missing on 13 May 2025, after he apparently failed to return home from school. His body was found the following day near the staircase in the Swazi Place complex, just metres from the front door of his home.

Custody and bail

Meek was arrested a month after Jayden‑Lee’s disappearance. She has remained in custody since her arrest following a failed bail application.

The trial will continue after the photographic album is compiled and admitted into the record, enabling the parties and witnesses to make direct reference to the inspection images during testimony.
