Teen Killed in KwaMashu Crash While Allegedly Driving Intoxicated FatherParent Arrested
A 14-year-old boy was killed in a crash on the M25 in KwaMashu yesterday after he was allegedly driving his reportedly intoxicated father, who has since been arrested.
The Witness reports that members of Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) were dispatched after the operations centre received multiple calls reporting a serious accident.
The Crash
On arrival at 15:59 , reaction officers found a blue Toyota Corolla Quest that had overturned multiple times.
It is alleged that the teenager was driving in the eastbound lane when he failed to negotiate a bend. The vehicle veered onto the verge on the extreme right before rolling several times.
The car came to rest on all four wheels in the opposite lane, facing westbound.
The Father’s Arrest
A statement by Rusa says the boy’s father was a passenger in the vehicle and was allegedly under the influence of alcohol , which resulted in the minor driving.
Paramedics assessed the boy, who had been ejected from the vehicle. He sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene.
The father was handed over to the police for further investigation.
The Bottom Line
A 14-year-old behind the wheel. A father allegedly drunk in the passenger seat. A crash. A death. An arrest.
The teenager paid with his life. The father will now pay the price.
