A fresh legal battle is unfolding around reality TV star and business mogul Kylie Jenner, and it is the kind that shifts the spotlight away from billion-dollar brands and onto what happens behind closed doors.
A former housekeeper has come forward with serious allegations, painting a troubling picture of life inside the star’s California homes.
Angelica Vasquez, who worked for Jenner between September 2024 and August 2025, says what began as an opportunity quickly turned into something far more difficult.
Originally hired to work at the Beverly Hills property, Vasquez was later moved to the Hidden Hills residence. According to court documents, the change did little to improve her experience.
She claims she was met with hostility from the outset, particularly from senior staff members she identified as Patsy and Elsie. Instead of settling into a routine, Vasquez says she was made to feel unwelcome almost immediately.
The lawsuit outlines a pattern of behaviour that Vasquez describes as both humiliating and relentless. She alleges that she was regularly given the most demanding tasks and singled out in front of colleagues because of her race, religion and background.
According to her account, co-workers mocked her accent, treated her as inferior and even used gestures like snapping fingers to command her attention.
One incident in March 2025 stands out in the filing. Vasquez claims a supervisor threw coat hangers at her feet during a reprimand, an act she describes as both degrading and intimidating.
She also alleges that she was falsely accused of wrongdoing and, at one point, forced to hand over her personal phone for inspection.
The claims extend beyond the main household. Vasquez says she was instructed to work at the Beverly Hills home of actor Timothée Chalamet, who is reportedly in a relationship with Jenner.
She alleges that these additional duties came without proper compensation, including unpaid transport costs for travelling between properties.
Vasquez says she tried to raise concerns about her treatment, but her complaints were not taken seriously. Instead, she claims they were dismissed or ignored altogether.
Over time, she says the situation began to affect her health. The lawsuit states she experienced anxiety, severe stress and symptoms linked to post-traumatic stress disorder.
By July 2025, she had taken medical leave. A month later, she resigned, saying the working environment had become unbearable.
While Jenner is not accused of directly participating in the alleged harassment, she is named in the lawsuit for allegedly failing to address the situation.
Two companies, Tri Star Services and Maison Family Services, are also listed alongside several unidentified individuals.
Vasquez is now seeking damages, including compensation for unpaid wages and emotional distress, and has requested a jury trial.
At the time of publication, Jenner and her representatives have not publicly responded to the allegations.
Cases like this often spark wider conversations about how domestic workers are treated, especially in high-profile households where power dynamics can be uneven.
For many South Africans, the story may feel familiar. Domestic work remains one of the most common forms of employment locally, and debates around fair treatment, respect and proper pay continue to shape the national conversation.
This lawsuit, while unfolding thousands of kilometres away, taps into a universal question. What responsibility do employers carry when things go wrong behind the scenes
As the legal process begins, that question is likely to remain front and centre.
