TikTok clips showing a man apparently raising a leopard inside a township home have drawn thousands of views and a swirl of online debate over whether the footage is genuine or produced with artificial intelligence. According to IOL, the videos were posted by TikTok creator Sunshinesedi and have prompted viewers to question the authenticity of the scenes.

What the videos show

The clips depict a spotted feline moving freely through a house while a man narrates his day-to-day life with the animal. The creator describes one clip as the animal’s first day living with him and jokes about the leopard’s behaviour.

“This is day one of raising a leopard in the kasi (township).”

According to IOL, the videos show the leopard in various parts of the home, including perched on top of a refrigerator, walking across a stove and stopping to drink water. The creator also claims to feed the animal a diet of raw chicken and beef.

Questions over authenticity

According to IOL, the authenticity of the videos has not been independently verified. The clips have divided viewers: some marvel at the apparent calm between man and animal, while others believe the footage may be the product of advanced visual effects or AI.

Creator’s privacy

According to IOL, the TikTok creator refuses to disclose which township he is based in.

Animal welfare concerns

The videos have also drawn attention to broader concerns about wild animals in captivity. According to IOL, the National Council of SPCAs (NSPCA) opposes keeping wild animals as pets, arguing such confinement compromises species-specific physical, behavioural and social needs and that wildlife should remain in their natural habitat.

What remains unclear

According to IOL, independent verification of the clips is still outstanding. Beyond the footage itself and the creator’s claims shown in the videos, no additional confirmed details about the location or circumstances have been provided.
