A teaser video shared on Renaldo Nortje’s Facebook page on 5 August 2026 has stirred fresh debate after Mel Viljoen claimed her husband, Peet Viljoen, was a whistleblower, not a criminal.

The clip, titled ‘Renaldo Nortje hears a rumour about Peet Viljoen!!!’, quickly drew attention online.

‘He was the one that told everybody’

In the clip, Renaldo says he had heard a rumour from a credible source and asks Mel about Peet’s role in the case. He tells her:

‘Peet was the corresponding attorney to do the transfers,’ before adding that the rumour suggests Peet was ‘the whistleblower that showed the criminal activities’.

Mel does not back away from the claim. She replies that the whistleblower point is true and says, ‘He was the one that told everybody about this.’ She also says his life has become ‘a living hell’ since then.

Those comments have helped push the clip into wider conversation, with viewers now weighing the line between public scandal, legal process and the treatment of people who say they exposed wrongdoing.

A comparison to another high-profile case

Mel also draws a comparison between Peet’s matter and the case of an advocate linked to IDAC that is before the Matlanga Commission. In the teaser, she refers to what she describes asfabricating of evidence’ and ‘witness intimidation’, saying similar things have followed Peet for 16 years.

The clip ends with Renaldo summarising her position, asking if Peet was the whistleblower. Mel answers: ‘Yes.’ She adds that he was not the person who did it, but the one who reported it.

The reel is now doing the rounds as more viewers wait for the full conversation.
