Mahikeng-based crime activist Thato Molosankwe has died after being shot at his home in Lomanyaneng on Wednesday. Police confirmed he sustained multiple gunshot wounds during the attack.

Police deploy maximum resources

In response to the killing, Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant-General Puleng Dimpane ordered the immediate deployment of maximum police resources to track down those responsible. Dimpane condemned the murder and vowed investigators would pursue the case vigorously.

Investigation taken over by specialised unit

The Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit has taken over the investigation. Authorities said they are intensifying efforts to establish a motive and identify suspects involved in the shooting.

Community role and safety concerns

Police described Molosankwe as a community-minded individual who assisted police efforts to fight crime and corruption and to strengthen relations between the SAPS and communities.

“Molosankwe has been described by local police as a community-minded individual who played an important role in assisting police efforts aimed at fighting crime and corruption, as well as strengthening relations between the SAPS and communities.”

Known for his outspoken stance against crime and corruption, Molosankwe worked closely with local law enforcement and community structures to improve safety and accountability. The murder has raised concern about the safety of community activists and anti-crime campaigners in the province.
