Rachel Kolisi keeps fans smiling with playful post-op updates after shoulder surgery

Published

Rachel Kolisi has been using humour to reassure fans while recovering from a shoulder operation, sharing candid hospital photos and playful social-media updates that blend emotional moments with light-hearted scenes at home.

Short, personal clips put worried followers at ease

In recent posts, Kolisi posted videos showing everyday recovery life. One TikTok captured a patient moment as she sat on a bed “waiting for my daughter’s fashion show to start,” before her daughter Keziah appeared in a printed dress and her mother’s high heels. The clip included a joke from Kolisi: “We were here for at least 30 minutes reviewing options. She didn’t get it from her mama, obviously.”

Playful self-care and candid hospital moments

Kolisi shared another TikTok of a self-care moment in which she wore a bright blue face mask and laughed at her own appearance. The post was captioned “Tried to do a little self care today.” She also posted hospital photos that initially worried some followers but used follow-up posts to reassure them.

“Proof of life” and frank updates

In an Instagram Stories video Kolisi said she had deliberately waited to film until she was off pain medication, explaining:

“I thought I would do a proof of life video… and I also thought it would be best to do a video when I was off pain medication. Just to ensure nothing interesting comes out of my mouth.”

She added “All is well,” and said, “I’m going to attempt a shower today.”

Humour alongside gratitude

Kolisi acknowledged that one hospital picture may have appeared more dramatic than intended, saying:

“I’m really sorry that I put that second picture because it does look way more dramatic than what it needed to be, but I was just trying to show something sweet.”

She also reflected on the difficulty of the first week after surgery and thanked those who supported her:

“Obviously not ideal. But it is what it is,”

and

“Made it through the first week post op, only because I have the most amazing people around me.”

She expressed gratitude for messages, meals, school lifts and helping hands received during recovery.

Work and public life

Kolisi withdrew from the Kingsmead Book Fair while she focuses on recovery. She continues to promote her memoir Falling Forward and has used humour in captions and other posts including joking references to her memoir and playful moments such as changing an old apron reading “Mrs Kolisi” to “Ms Kolisi” in a cooking video.
