Where most Springboks were born a look at the top towns and cities

New data from the Springbok history site Bokhist shows where South Africa’s international rugby players were born, highlighting a concentration of Springbok births in a handful of towns and cities across the country.

Major birthplaces for Springbok players

The largest single birthplace for Springboks is Cape Town, which accounts for 72 players. Other leading birthplaces include Pretoria with 46 players and Johannesburg with 43.

A notable figure is the Western Cape town of Paarl, where 36 Springbok players were born. The town’s role in producing players is highlighted by those numbers.

Other towns and their contributions

Tied for fifth on Bokhist’s list are Bloemfontein, Kimberley and Port Elizabeth, each listed as the birthplace of 27 Springboks. Durban is the birthplace of 26 players.
