Tshwane schedules 28-hour water shutdown for Rosslyn and Klerksoord industrial areas

Published

The City of Tshwane will cut water supply to customers fed by the Magaliesberg/Rosslyn Reservoir for 28 hours starting Friday morning as it replaces valves on a bulk pipeline in Rosslyn.

When and where the interruption will happen

The interruption is scheduled to begin at 04:00 on Friday, 26 June and is expected to end at 08:00 on Saturday, 27 June. The City advises that customers supplied by the Magaliesberg/Rosslyn Reservoir may experience low to no water pressure during this period.

Why the shutdown is necessary

According to the City of Tshwane’s Communication, Marketing and Events Department, the shutdown is required for maintenance work on the bulk water pipeline on Doreen Avenue in Rosslyn. Two existing valves on the pipeline need to be replaced, making a temporary shutdown unavoidable.

Areas likely to be affected

The City named the following areas as those that may experience low to no water pressure during the maintenance window:

  • Rosslyn Industrial area
  • Klerksoord Industrial area

Advice for residents and businesses

The City urged customers in the affected industrial areas to store sufficient water ahead of the shutdown and for businesses that rely heavily on water to factor the 28-hour window into their planning to minimise disruptions to operations.

Water conservation measures during the interruption

The City also encouraged all customers not only those in the affected areas to adopt water-conservation measures. The recommended measures include:

  • Refraining from watering or irrigating gardens using hosepipes or sprinkler systems between 06:00 and 18:00
  • Not washing vehicles with hosepipes
  • Not filling swimming pools
  • Continuing to use grey water to water gardens and flush toilets where possible
  • Installing water-saving devices where feasible

Plan ahead

Customers in Rosslyn and Klerksoord Industrial areas were specifically encouraged to make alternative arrangements before the Friday morning shutdown to avoid disruption to daily activities and operations.
