Germiston man convicted of killing father, shooting mother in alleged bid for family wealth

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the accused’s parents returned to their Leondale residence early that afternoon. As they stopped at the gate, the accused approached their vehicle armed with a firearm and deliberately opened fire on them, Gauteng NPA spokesperson Magaboke Mohlatlole said.

Mr Ndimphiwe’s father, Mawethu Manqu, sustained fatal gunshot wounds and was declared dead at the scene. His mother was shot; the bullet entered through her cheek and exited through her chin. She survived after receiving emergency medical treatment.

State case: motive and evidence

The State, led by a senior state advocate, presented evidence during the trial that the attack was premeditated and showed the accused’s disregard for his parents’ lives. The prosecution urged the court to accept that greed and the prospect of benefitting from his parents’ wealth, pension benefits and other assets motivated the attack, Mohlatlole said.

The investigating officer gave evidence that the probe pointed to financial gain as the motive for the offences, and the State said the accused showed no remorse for the attack.

“The prosecution argued that the attack was motivated by greed, submitting that the accused intended to benefit from his parents’ wealth, pension benefits and other assets,” Mohlatlole said.

Next steps and NPA response

The matter was postponed to 14 September 2026 for sentencing. The NPA welcomed the conviction and said the outcome reaffirmed that those who commit violent crimes against family members for financial gain will be held accountable.

Mohlatlole said the conviction also underscored the NPA’s commitment to prosecuting violent crime and securing justice for victims and their families.
