Cat Matlala to testify at Madlanga Commission, IOL reports
Businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala is expected to appear before the Madlanga Commission next week after being subpoenaed, according to IOL.
Subpoena and possible conditions
According to IOL, Matlala has been subpoenaed to give evidence at the commission and is expected to appear on Tuesday. Sources told IOL his appearance may be subject to specific conditions, including a reported limitation that he will not be questioned on matters relating to the Medicare24 contract.
Plea talks and an exemption request
According to IOL, the sources further allege that during earlier discussions linked to plea negotiations, Matlala initially sought to be exempted from appearing before the commission. It is understood he later agreed to testify on the condition that questioning about the Medicare24 contract would be excluded from cross-examination, according to IOL.
Commission response and next steps
According to IOL, the commission has not yet confirmed the reported conditions. Spokesperson Jeremy Michaels is due to hold a press briefing at 10am, IOL reports. IOL added that it has sent inquiries to Matlala’s lawyer, Advocate Hlamu Maluleke, and said feedback will be added once received.
This is a developing story.
