Cartrack awaiting external reports before finalising probe into employee’s death

Cartrack says it is waiting for external reports before finalising its internal investigation into the death of an employee at its Rosebank headquarters, according to IOL.

Investigation nearing completion

The company’s internal probe is at an advanced stage, nearly two months after 29-year-old Gcina Dhladhla died inside a toilet cubicle at the Rosebank offices on June 6, according to IOL.

Allegations and company response

IOL reports that it has been alleged Dhladhla told a supervisor she was unwell but was instructed to continue working. Cartrack has strongly denied the allegation, the article says.

“We have worked closely with the Department of Labour and have been fully cooperative and transparent throughout the process,”

Cartrack CEO Joshua Victor told IOL, according to the report.

Pending external reports and next steps

Victor said most of the internal investigation had been concluded and that the company remained engaged with the Department of Employment and Labour. He told IOL that only a small number of external reports remained outstanding before the investigation could be finalised.

The article also notes that Cartrack has about 7,000 employees across South Africa, and that the company said it is committed to reviewing workplace practices alongside the Department of Labour, according to IOL.

Department of Employment and Labour involvement

IOL reports that the Department of Employment and Labour is conducting its own investigation into the circumstances of Dhladhla’s death and that the department has visited the offices as part of its probe.

The publication reports that findings from the department’s investigation are expected within 90 days and that the inquiry will examine compliance with multiple labour laws and requirements.
