IEC report: DA declared over R104m in donations for Q1 of 2026/27, two companies gave R55m

The Democratic Alliance (DA) declared R104,034,185.25 in donations for the first quarter of the 2026/27 financial year, according to figures released by the Electoral Commission (IEC). The declaration covers contributions received between 1 April and 30 June 2026.

Who paid: two companies supplied more than half the cash

The IEC disclosure shows the DA received R98.75 million in monetary donations and R5.28 million in in‑kind support. Two companies listed in the declaration Fynbos Ekwiteit (Pty) Ltd and Fynbos Kapitaal (Pty) Ltd donated R30 million and R25 million respectively, a combined total of R55 million.

Other large monetary donors

The IEC declaration names several other substantial monetary contributions to the DA during the quarter. These include:

• R10 million from D Barnes
• R5 million from R Slack Diamond
• R5 million from J Slack Jell
• R5 million from M Moshal
• R5 million from Lombard Consolidated (Pty) Ltd
• R2.5 million from Kerry Road Trust
• R2 million from Predator Securities (Pty) Ltd

Those named donations total R39.5 million, which combined with the R55 million from the two Fynbos companies amounts to R94.5 million of the DA’s monetary donations for the quarter.

Declared in‑kind support

The DA also recorded R5.28 million in non‑cash donations. Among the larger in‑kind items listed in the IEC declaration were:

• R2.78 million from Voices of South Africa Foundation NPC
• R1.16 million from the Make a Difference Trust (MAD)
• R815,891.08 from the Friedrich Naumann Foundation
• R528,655 from Mr and Mrs T Madilonga, relating to two vehicles made available to the party

How the DA’s haul compares to other parties

The IEC figures for the quarter show the DA’s declared total formed the large majority of compliant political donations among parties that reported. Other declarations included:

• ActionSA: R5.5 million, including R5 million from businessman Martin Moshal
• Labour Party of South Africa: R5 million from the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU)
• RISE Mzansi: R2.25 million from Ungani Investments and Captrust Investments

Together, the four parties’ declarations amounted to R116.78 million, with the DA responsible for the overwhelming majority of that figure.

Election context and IEC oversight

The donations were declared as parties prepare for the 4 November 2026 local government elections. The IEC said it expects political fundraising and campaign spending to rise and stated it will closely monitor large donations, late declarations, discrepancies between donor and party disclosures, third‑party expenditure, foreign funding and proof of transactions.
