Pastor wanted after woman allegedly raped and baby found in shallow grave
Police have launched a manhunt for a man following the alleged rape of a 43-year-old woman and the death of her four-month-old baby near the Hennops River in Gauteng.
The infant’s body was discovered in a shallow grave on Wednesday, 7 October, after police were alerted to the incident.
According to the South African Police Service, preliminary information indicates that the woman had travelled to the Hennops River near the R511 accompanied by a pastor and his wife for what was described as a ritual.
The pastor’s wife allegedly remained with the baby while the pastor and the woman proceeded towards the river.
SAPS said the woman was allegedly raped and tied up while at the river.
She later managed to free herself and sought assistance at a nearby construction site, where a private security company was activated and police were notified.
A multidisciplinary police team was subsequently deployed to search for the missing infant and locate the pastor and his wife.
The team included Crime Scene Management, Search and Rescue, General Detectives, Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) detectives, as well as drone operators.
SAPS said the pastor’s 24-year-old wife was later located and questioned by investigators.
Police allege that she led them to a shallow grave, where the body of the four-month-old baby was found.
A case of kidnapping, rape and murder has been opened.
The investigation remains underway, while police continue their search for the pastor.
