Connie Ferguson seeks to evict Ruimsig tenants over alleged R549,000 debt
Actress and businesswoman Connie Ferguson is pursuing the eviction of a couple from a property in Ruimsig, with an alleged R549,302 in unpaid occupational rent, municipal utilities and related charges at the centre of the dispute.
The couple is contesting the application and formally notified the Johannesburg High Court of its intention to oppose the proceedings on 7 October, according to the Sunday Times.
The dispute follows a property sale agreement signed on 28 October 2025, under which the couple moved into the home while awaiting the transfer to be finalised.
Dispute over unpaid occupational rent
Under the agreement, the couple was required to pay R65,000 a month in occupational rent, excluding additional charges.
Ferguson alleges that the payments fell into arrears, resulting in the outstanding amount exceeding R549,000.
According to reports, the couple attributed its financial difficulties to alleged fraud involving its accountant.
The couple reportedly made payments totalling R165,000 during May and June, but the outstanding balance had not been settled by August.
Ferguson says continued occupation affects property
Ferguson’s company argues that the couple’s continued occupation of the property prevents it from using or selling the home.
In her affidavit, Ferguson maintained that the couple could find alternative accommodation without being left homeless or having to rely on state resources.
The eviction application has now become a contested legal matter after the couple indicated that it intends to oppose the proceedings.
Court battle set to continue
The case centres on the alleged unpaid charges and whether the eviction should be granted.
With the couple opposing the application, the dispute will have to be resolved through the legal process. The outstanding amount and the circumstances surrounding the agreement remain subject to the court proceedings.
