The driver managed to get out and flee as the group allegedly moved in on him. During the incident, a voice can be heard shouting, “Shoot him, shoot him!” while one of the men appears to be carrying a firearm and following in the direction of the fleeing driver.
The footage is circulating on social media and has prompted calls for the people shown in it to be arrested. However, the identities of those involved and the circumstances surrounding the incident have not been independently verified.
How the alleged ambush unfolded
The video begins with a woman entering the vehicle after apparently requesting an e-hailing ride. The driver can be seen holding his cellphone while it charges inside the car.
Shortly afterwards, the woman appears to look towards the side of the vehicle. A man then enters through a rear door, while the driver appears to be looking towards two other men outside his window.
The woman positions herself near the passenger door, seemingly preparing to leave. The man in the back then opens the door, allowing the other two men to enter the vehicle.
One of the men reaches forward from the rear seat and pulls the handbrake. The movement appears to alert the driver to what is happening inside the car.
As the situation escalates, the woman allegedly attempts to grab the driver’s cellphone before quickly getting out of the vehicle. The driver then exits and runs away, apparently fearing for his safety.
Driver flees as threat is heard
As the driver runs, one of the men can be heard shouting:
“Shoot him, shoot him!”
Another man appears to be holding a firearm and moving after the driver. The video does not establish whether any shot was fired, and it is not clear from the footage whether the driver was injured.
Two of the men later return to the vehicle and appear to search through the driver’s belongings. One appears to examine a wallet before looking around the driver’s seat.
It remains unclear what valuables, if any, were taken during the alleged robbery. The vehicle is left with both front doors open, while a dog can be heard barking in the background.
One of the men subsequently returns to the vehicle and appears to remove additional belongings. Another man later approaches and closes the doors after the group has left.
Footage draws calls for arrests
The video has led to strong reaction on social media, with users calling for the people shown in the footage to be identified and arrested.
Dashcam recordings can provide investigators with a visual account of an incident, but footage alone may not establish the identities of everyone shown or confirm the full sequence of events. Those questions generally depend on further investigation, including the examination of the recording and statements from people involved.
In this case, the identities of the alleged robbers have not been independently confirmed. It is also not known from the available footage whether a case has been opened or whether any arrests have been made.
Police confirmation awaited
An inquiry has been sent to Gauteng police seeking confirmation of the incident, details of any case opened and information on whether suspects have been identified or arrested.
Police comment was still awaited at the time of publication. Until further information is provided, the allegations shown in the circulating footage remain subject to verification.
