Gauteng to warm slightly with clear, dry weekend after cold spell

Gauteng residents who endured a cold week can expect a shift this weekend as the South African Weather Service (SAWS) forecasts clearer skies and slightly warmer daytime temperatures across the province.

Clear, dry conditions across Pretoria and Johannesburg

SAWS predicts mostly clear skies for Saturday and Sunday, with no rain forecast for Pretoria and Johannesburg. The agency said temperatures are likely to rise into the low 20s in parts of the province.

Pretoria forecast

Pretoria is expected to warm on Saturday with a minimum of 9°C and a maximum of 21°C. The forecast calls for clear skies in the early hours, partly cloudy conditions around 8am and mostly clear skies during the afternoon. Temperatures are forecast to reach 11°C at 2am, 12°C at 8am and 20°C at 2pm before dropping to 16°C by 8pm.

Humidity is expected to range from 25% to 55%, and winds will shift from easterly early on to south-westerly later in the day. SAWS forecasts 0mm of rainfall and a 0% chance of rain for Pretoria on Saturday. Sunday will be slightly warmer with temperatures from 9°C to 23°C and clear skies throughout the day.

Johannesburg forecast

Johannesburg will also be dry and clear over the weekend. Saturday is expected to start cold with a minimum of 7°C before easing to a maximum of 19°C. The day will feature clear skies overnight, partly cloudy conditions in the morning and mostly clear skies in the afternoon.

SAWS forecasts temperatures of 10°C at 2am, 11°C at 8am and 18°C at 2pm, dropping to 15°C by 8pm. Humidity is expected between 25% and 50%, winds will shift from south-westerly to south-south-easterly, and there is a 0% chance of rain on Saturday. Sunday should be slightly warmer with a minimum of 8°C and a maximum of 21°C, with clear skies.
