Celebrities and public figures hail Bafana Bafana after World Cup exit
South African celebrities and public figures flooded social media and issued statements of support after Bafana Bafana’s exit from the FIFA World Cup. The national team were defeated 1–0 in the Round of 32, and responses praised the squad’s achievement and historic run.
Stars offer praise and pride
Presenter and musician Nandi Madida led a wave of posts encouraging the team and celebrating their performance. Madida wrote:
“You guys made history for South African football. You should be so damn proud of yourselves. 🇿🇦❤️Thank you for reminding a nation what belief, unity, and resilience look like,”
Reigning Miss South Africa Qhawekazi Mazelani also shared her admiration, saying:

Presenter and TV producer Minnie Dlamini, who watched the match live from the stadium in Los Angeles, wrote:

Rapper Cassper Nyovest expressed his heartbreak at the loss and highlighted player Mbekezeli Mbokazi, saying Mbokazi had an exceptional time at the FIFA World Cup and was hailed as one of the breakout stars.

Government spokesperson William Baloyi issued a statement praising the team’s achievement and its wider impact:
“The nation remains immensely proud of what the team has achieved. For the first time in South Africa’s history, Bafana Bafana reached the knockout stages of the FIFA World Cup, inspiring millions of South Africans and making the Southern African region proud,”
Baloyi said.
