Liam Payne’s Tragic Death Sparks $10M Legal Battle Over Defamation Claims

The aftermath of Liam Payne’s untimely death in October 2024 has taken a dramatic legal turn. Roger Nores, a close friend of the late One Direction star, is suing Liam’s father, Geoff Payne, for $10 million over allegations of defamation.

According to Nores, Geoff Payne’s sworn statements to Argentine police falsely portrayed him as part of a “care group” responsible for Liam’s well-being due to his “vulnerable situation.” Geoff’s claims reportedly led to Nores being charged with manslaughter following Liam’s fatal fall from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires.

Nores refutes these accusations, describing them as “false, containing material omissions, and not based on personal knowledge.” He asserts that he and Liam were simply “mutual dear friends” and denies any professional caretaking relationship.

Nores is seeking $10 million in damages, citing the “mega proportions” of harm caused to his reputation. However, he has pledged that any proceeds from the lawsuit will go to Liam’s son, Bear, whom he shared with Cheryl Cole.

In a statement to Rolling Stone, Nores said:

“All the proceeds will be donated to my friend’s son. Geoff needs to backtrack on his [sworn] statement as he very well knows I wasn’t Liam’s nurse or caretaker. Liam, who I miss every day, was my dear friend and an independent, brilliant, respectful free man who did whatever he wanted whenever he wanted.”

Nores recounted visiting Liam at his hotel three times on the day of his death, leaving 40 minutes before the tragic fall. He has categorically denied claims that police raided his home in connection to the incident and asserts his cooperation as a witness in the investigation.

“I never abandoned Liam. I could have never imagined something like this would happen. I’m really heartbroken with this tragedy and have been missing my friend every day,” Nores told MailOnline.

The legal battle underscores the emotional and legal complexities surrounding Liam Payne’s death. It has reignited discussions about responsibility, grief, and the devastating impact of public allegations on personal relationships.
