Biggest movies and shows releasing in July

With streaming services and movie theatres releasing a packed schedule of eagerly awaited films and binge-worthy TV series, July is looking to be a blockbuster month for entertainment. There is something for every viewer to add to their watchlist, ranging from suspenseful dramas and action-packed thrillers to hilarious comedies and fantastical adventures.

These are the biggest blockbusters coming in July that are worth seeing, whether you’re planning cosy winter evenings on the sofa or a trip to the big screen.

Enola Holmes 3

Netflix‘s iconic detective is returning to the small screen this month, with the third Enola Holmes film set to release on 1 July. The third film follows Enola, now engaged to Lord Tewkesbury, investigating the disappearance of her older brother, Sherlock Holmes. From the streets of Victorian London to coasts of Malta, this period-piece mystery is sure to be a great addition to the franchise, with Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things) reprising her role, along with the return of Louis Partridge, Henry Cavill, and Helena Bonham Carter.

Elle

The iconic Legally Blonde franchise is making its return with the new prequel series, Elle. Starring newcomer Lexi Minetree as Elle Woods, (originally played by Reese Witherspoon) the series follows Elle in high school as her family moves to Seattle. Having grown up in Bel-Air, Elle must learn to fit in with the Seattle grunge scene of the 90s, leading to a heartwarming coming of age story that is sure to give fans plenty of nostalgia

Moana

Disney live-action remakes are always a huge draw to the cinemas for families. Moana, originally released in 2016, was a massive hit for the Mouse House, and now fans can see it brought to life in live-action. The film follows the teenaged Moana as she embarks on an epic adventure full of fantasy and discovery. With new takes on the beloved musical numbers, this film is sure to be a fun experience, particularly with the return of Dwayne Johnson as Maui.

Ride or Die

A new action-comedy is hitting the small screen this month, with eight episodes dropping upon release. The Ride or Die series follows Debbie and Judith who go on an adventure of international espionage after it is revealed that Judith is secretly an international assassin. Starring Octavia Spencer (Ma, Hidden Figures) and Hannah Waddingham, ( Ted Lasso, Sex Education) this series will certainly make for a great binge this winter.

The Odyssey

Christopher Nolan’s films are always a massive draw for cinephiles, with his latest blockbuster, The Odyssey adapting the Greek epic. The film follows Odysseus (Matt Damon) throughout his ten-year journey home to Ithaca after the Trojan War. The film is sure to feature sweeping cinematography, epic action scenes, Greek gods and monsters. With the stacked cast, including Zendaya, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, and Jon Bernthal, this film is sure to be one of the biggest releases of the year.

Heartstopper Forever

The Heartstopper series was a huge hit for Netflix, with the three-season series following the love story between Charlie and Nick. Now, Netflix is giving fans closure with a straight-to-streaming film, Heartstopper Forever. The coming-of-age film is set to be an emotional tale of love as Nick prepares to leave for University. Kit Connor and Joe Locke are set to reprise their roles, along with Yasmin Finney, William Gao, Corrina Brown, and Kizzy Edgell.

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe

The Big Bang Theory was one of the biggest sitcoms of its time, and now it is making another triumphant return to the small screen. Stuart Fails to Save the Universe follows secondary character Stuart on an multiversal adventure. The 10-episode series is sure to feature plenty of call-backs to the original sitcom, and is sure to be a big draw for Big Bang fans. As the series is an HBO Max original, it would have aired on Showmax, however, with the streaming service’s recent shut down, fans can likely catch the series on DsTV, though Multichoice have not confirmed.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Spider-Man is always a massive draw to the cinemas, and this month, iconic web-slinger is returning to the big screen. Spider-Man: Brand New Day features the return of Tom Holland’s Peter Parker, now an adult who deals with the world forgetting his identity after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. The action-packed feature will see the return of beloved characters like MJ, (Zendaya) Ned, (Jacob Batalon), Bruce Banner/the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), and Frank Castle/the Punisher. ( Jon Bernthal) Stranger Things alum Sadie Sink is also set to star, making her MCU debut as a currently unknown character.
