SA Dance Troupe Via Katlehong Brings “Via Injabulo” to Joburg Theatre

Johannesburg, South Africa – Celebrated dance troupe Via Katlehong is gearing up for an exhilarating performance of their latest production, “Via Injabulo,” at the Joburg Theatre from June 29 to July 2. After enthralling audiences during their recent world tour, this will be the first time the group showcases their talent for a local South African audience. Their tour is made possible with the support of the French Institute of South Africa, the French Institute in Paris, and TotalEnergies Marketing South Africa as reported by the Joburg Theatre.

Following the success of their collaboration with renowned choreographer Gregory Maqoma on “Via Kanana,” Via Katlehong has invited Amala Dianor (France/Senegal) and Marco da Silva Ferreira (Portugal) to join them in creating a new masterpiece. “Via Injabulo” offers a captivating double bill that combines the joy of dance and the spirit of sharing. It celebrates the vibrant community, culture, and traditions of the Katlehong township, blending contemporary dance with the dynamic South African pantsula style.

In “Emaphakathini,” Amala Dianor explores the concept of amalgamation, pushing boundaries and discovering new spaces and connections (“emaphakathini”) through movement. Meanwhile, in “førm Inførms,” Marco da Silva Ferreira reinvents the metaphor of the body as an anthropological object, embodying rebellion and the anti-hero figure.

Via Katlehong’s unique fusion of traditional African dance, hip-hop, and contemporary dance has enchanted mesmerised audiences worldwide. According to a review in the French newspaper Le Monde, “Via Injabulo” is an impressive amalgamation of dance styles seamlessly intertwined:

Via Katlehong has garnered international acclaim through successful tours in France and Europe, including a standout performance at the prestigious Avignon Festival.
