AfriForum Rejects High Treason Allegations as NPA Reviews Cases

AfriForum has dismissed allegations of high treason as “baseless” following the National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) announcement that it is reviewing cases against the organisation and trade union Solidarity.
The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) is currently investigating four cases linked to claims of a so-called “white genocide” targeting farmers in South Africa. The controversy stems from AfriForum and Solidarity’s submission of the “Washington Memorandum” to the Trump administration, calling for US intervention in Afrikaner development.
AfriForum CEO Kallie Kriel dismissed the allegations, accusing the state of political bias. He claimed authorities are targeting AfriForum while ignoring corruption cases involving senior ANC figures.
“I will not be having any sleepless nights over this as these complaints are baseless. If the state, however, goes ahead with this, it will only make us stronger. It would confirm that ANC leaders are abusing their power to govern against certain sections of the population,” Kriel said in a post on X.
He further criticised the Hawks, arguing that ANC leaders implicated in corruption at the Zondo Commission have not faced similar scrutiny.
Breaking News: The South African government is targeting its opponents by entertaining false charges of high treason against those who fight for property rights and expose the human rights abuses against Afrikaners.

Kriel suggested that if AfriForum is taken to court, it would serve as a platform to expose what he sees as the ANC’s mismanagement.
“If AfriForum has to be in court, it will give us an opportunity to show the world and the country how ANC leaders are acting against the interests of the nation. AfriForum, Solidarity, and the Solidarity Movement remain loyal because we are fighting for the interests of South Africans,” he said.
President Cyril Ramaphosa recently condemned AfriForum’s visit to Washington, warning that it fuels division. However, Kriel defended the trip, saying it was necessary due to the government’s failure to address key issues.
The controversy comes in the wake of former US President Donald Trump’s decision to cut funding to South Africa over human rights concerns related to land policies, with billionaire Elon Musk also publicly criticising the South African government.
