JMPD Rescues Uber Driver After Hijacking Incident in Alexandra

The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) successfully recovered an Uber driver who had been hijacked in Alexandra.
The hijacking came to light when the vehicle owner reported the Uber driver missing. JMPD officers acted quickly and tracked down the vehicle.

“The officers proceeded to the designated location for verification. Upon arrival, they spotted a man exiting the vehicle. When the man saw the officers, he fled, and a chase ensued. The suspect was apprehended,” the department reported.
While questioning the arrested individual, the officers heard someone screaming and knocking from inside the boot of the hijacked vehicle. Upon opening the boot, they found the Uber driver, who had been locked inside.
The driver explained that he had been hijacked by three men, and he was able to identify the suspect as one of his hijackers. He reported that the three men had threatened him with a gun before forcing him into the boot.
The suspect was found in possession of the Uber driver’s vehicle keys. He was arrested for kidnapping and hijacking and was detained at the Alexandra police station.
