SA Minister Dean Macpherson Dismisses Trump’s Land Confiscation Claims

Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Dean Macpherson, has firmly denied former US President Donald Trump’s claims that land is being confiscated in South Africa, reassuring investors and the public that no land grabs will occur.

Trump recently announced plans to cut all US funding to South Africa, alleging that the country was seizing land and discriminating based on class.

“It is a bad situation that the Radical Left Media doesn’t want to so much as mention. A massive Human Rights VIOLATION, at a minimum, is happening for all to see. The United States won’t stand for it, we will act. Also, I will be cutting off all future funding to South Africa until a full investigation of this situation has been completed!” Trump posted.

Macpherson Reassures Investors Amid Land Reform Concerns

According to BusinessLIVE, Macpherson addressed the controversy during his speech at the Mining Indaba in Cape Town, emphasizing that investor confidence is directly tied to policy certainty.

“It is, therefore, imperative that SA provides a clear, predictable regulatory environment that drives long-term investment,” Macpherson said, adding that misconceptions about the Expropriation Act had caused unnecessary panic.

“I want to be unequivocal: No one in SA is having their land confiscated. As the Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, land grabs will never be allowed. This is my commitment to the people of SA and our partners around the world,” he stated.

Expropriation Act Provides Legal Clarity, Says Macpherson

According to IOL, Macpherson further explained that the Expropriation Act establishes a legal framework that ensures due process and court oversight for any land acquisitions. He highlighted that Section 25 of the Constitution guarantees property rights as a fundamental legal protection.

“This government is committed to working with international partners—not against them—to ensure investor confidence remains strong. As the Minister responsible for this bill, I am also committed to ensuring that it is constitutional and that there will be no arbitrary land grabs by the state in South Africa,” he affirmed.

The land debate has sparked concern over whether property could be seized or sold, but Macpherson insists that the government’s approach remains measured and legally sound.
