ANC KZN to brief media on candidate disputes and election readiness ahead of November local polls

The ANC in KwaZulu‑Natal will brief the media on internal disputes over councillor candidate lists and on its readiness for the November 4 local government elections, the party said.

Provincial Task Team to outline responses and progress

The party’s Provincial Task Team (PTT) is expected to address a range of issues when it briefs the media on Thursday following an extraordinary leadership session and a region‑by‑region assessment of ANC structures across the province’s 11 regions.

Candidate lists and internal disputes

ANC provincial spokesperson Sifiso Sonjica said the party has been assessing the finalisation of candidate lists submitted to the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) and dealing with internal disputes related to those lists. The briefing will outline how the party plans to resolve disputes and enforce party discipline before campaigning intensifies.

Branch mobilisation and campaign structures

Sonjica said the party had been assessing branch mobilisation. The media briefing will also cover planned campaign structures, including the preparation of branch executive committees and volunteer corps for door‑to‑door campaigning and voter engagement.

Focus on community mandates and service delivery

The ANC said it wanted to ensure it fields “credible, accountable leaders directly driven by community mandates” in the elections. The party said its campaign structures would be geared towards community‑level interventions focused on service delivery and local job creation.

Final stages before the polls

The briefing comes as political parties prepare for the final stages of the election process, with candidate lists among the key issues being dealt with ahead of the polls.
