A suspect has been arrested in the investigation into the death of Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo, the 38-year-old mother who disappeared after leaving her Kempton Park home for an afternoon run.

The suspect was reportedly found in possession of an item belonging to Moselakgomo, according to national police spokesperson Brigadier Atlenda Mathe.

However, police have confirmed that the suspect has not been charged with murder at this stage.

Suspect linked to missing Kempton Park mother

Moselakgomo disappeared on 10 September after leaving home for her usual afternoon run.

Her eight-year-old daughter raised the alarm when her mother failed to return at her expected time, prompting the family to realise that something was wrong.

Her disappearance came amid reports of multiple women being found dead in the Ekurhuleni area. Moselakgomo was among 12 women whose bodies were discovered in the area during that period.

Mathe said the arrested suspect was found with an item belonging to the victim.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court and is likely to face a charge related to possession of stolen property.

No murder charge brought yet

Despite the arrest, police have stressed that the suspect has not been charged with Moselakgomo’s murder.

The circumstances surrounding the item allegedly found in the suspect’s possession, and whether further charges will follow, remain unclear from the information released by police.

The court appearance is expected to mark the next step in the investigation as authorities continue working to establish the circumstances surrounding Moselakgomo’s death.

The arrest represents a development in the case, but police have yet to confirm whether the suspect will face a murder charge.
