Family ‘struggling’ after Jayden Adams’ death, says his father
The family of late Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Jayden Adams is struggling to come to terms with his death, Juanito Adams spoke in an interview on Sunday, 12 July. He thanked South Africans for their support and described the past days as overwhelming after the 25-year-old’s death on 11 July.
Father speaks publicly
In his first public comments since his son’s passing, Juanito said the family is finding it hard to process the loss.
“As you all know, it was an untimely death. The family is struggling to process it,”
he said in the interview on Sunday, 12 July. He added: “It won’t be easy to carry on. People say it gets easier, but it doesn’t. You simply learn to live with it.”
Gratitude for public support
Juanito thanked South Africans and the global football community for the messages and support offered to the family. “We can see the love the world had for Jayden. It’s very overwhelming.”
Memories and tributes
Weeks before his death, Jayden’s parents spoke about his football journey in a television interview, recalling how he fell in love with the game as a child. His mother, Candice, remembered how he kicked everything around the house as a toddler.
Jayden’s longtime partner, Aqueelah Adendorf, posted an emotional tribute on social media, writing:
“There are no words to describe the pain I’m feeling. Rest in peace, my love. Thank you for every memory, every laugh, every hug, and every moment we shared. You were not only the love of my life but also my greatest supporter and my best friend.”
Police investigation underway
Western Cape SAPS has opened an inquest after officers found Jayden’s body at a property in Schotsche Kloof, Cape Town. His body was found; police are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
